Charley English was appointed director of GEMA/Homeland Security in February 2006. He has served in the agency since 1996. He began his career in public service as a local police officer in 1980. He also currently serves as the president of the National Emergency Management Association, the Chair of the Governor’s Commission on
9-1-1 Modernization and state Point of Contact for the FirstNet Public Safety Broadband Network.
He earned a master’s degree in Homeland Defense and Security from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2004 and a bachelor’s degree in Public and Urban Affairs from Georgia State University in 1986.
