Governor's 911 Committee

The Governor’s 9-1-1 Advisory Committee was established under Senate Bill 572, initially introduced to permit 9-1-1 surcharges to be levied on wireless/cellular telephones. Signed into law in April of 1998, the legislation shifted responsibility for 9-1-1 training and equipment standards to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA). Advisory Committee members include representatives from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, the Georgia Municipal Association, 9-1-1 Centers, and the communications industry. GEMA Director Charley English serves as Chairman of the Committee and GEMA 9-1-1 Program Administrator Elaine Sexton serves as the liaison to the Committee.
