Statewide Planning Office

The Operations Division Planning Section coordinates and facilitates statewide emergency response preparedness efforts. The section coordinates a variety of statewide initiatives and currently consists of eight staff members: the Planning Director, a Lead Planner, a Volunteers and Donations Coordinator, a Hurricane Program Manager, a Local Emergency Operations Plan (LEOP) Planner, an Energy Assurance Planner, a GIS Coordinator and a Faith Based Coordinator. Statewide initiatives currently under the purview of operations planning are clearly outlined by the following acronym:

Plan Review and Development
Local Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) Development Assistance
Assume the role of Planning and Intel during SOC activations
National Response Framework and GEOP integration
State Citizen Corps

Although several initiatives are within the scope of operations planning, the primary responsibility of the Planning Staff is review and maintenance of the State of Georgia Emergency Operations Plan (GEOP) and all associated companion documents, plan appendices and Standard Operating Guides and Procedures. The Georgia Emergency Operations Plan is updated every four years and describes the basic strategies, assumptions, operational goals and the statewide objectives in coordinating and mobilizing resources to support local emergency management mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery activities.
